3 Tips For Clearing Dark Marks in Melanin Rich Skin
Dark skin contains melanin, which gives it its beautiful color. Unfortunately, this also makes us that have it more susceptible to hyperpigmentation, or dark spots.
If you're struggling with hyperpigmentation, don't worry!
We're here to help.
Here are 3 tips for clearing dark marks on melanin-rich skin:
1. Not all skincare is created equal - make sure you're using products that contain tyrosinase inhibitors.
Tyrosinase is an enzyme that helps produce melanin. So, tyrosinase inhibitors can help reduce the appearance of dark spots by inhibiting the production of melanin.
This includes ingredients like vitamin c, niacinamide, and kojic acid which you can find in many of our Seoul Food Dark Spot Serum, Baby Face Formula Brightening Exfoliator and The Magic Stick (DM for recommendations!)
2. Use retinol once per week to train your skin to heal faster.
Retinol helps to speed up the skin cell turnover process. This means that new, healthy skin cells will replace old, damaged ones more quickly. As a result, dark spots and other forms of hyperpigmentation will fade faster.
3. Only use mineral sunscreen when you plan on being exposed to direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time.
Chemical sunscreens contain endocrine disrupting chemicals that can alter your hormone levels and make you break out and create MORE dark spots.
Mineral sunscreens, on the other hand, do not contain endocrine disruptors and are much less likely to irritate your skin.
Mineral sunscreens work by reflecting light away from your skin. This is important because UV rays can trigger the production of melanin and make dark spots worse.
